MEET ALINA CERVANTES!
Q: What is your recipe for success?
A: I started Kaiser’s Weight Management program in June. It requires weekly meetings, weigh-ins while monitoring my calories, water intake, and exercise. It has helped me stay accountable. The key for me is monitoring. I use MyFitnessPal to log my calories, exercise minutes, and water intake. I also had to arrange my world for success. I prep my work lunches ahead of time so I no longer visit the cafeteria. I have snacks every day at 10 AM and 3 PM so I’m never hungry. I created a personal code of conduct for myself which includes exercise at least 6 days a week – no excuses unless I’m really sick or there is a hurricane. I now get up early every morning to exercise before work or else it won’t happen.
Blake has always been great at working with me and holding me accountable. I had trouble cleaning up my diet, but Blake has been great at pushing me farther. Once the fat was gone, I could finally see the results of all the strength training we were doing.
Q: How long have you been coming to FR? What/Who got you involved in FR?
A: I started training with Blake in April 2016. I wanted to get back in to shape after having kids and my friend Tim Collom recommended Blake to me.
Q: What kind of activities do you participate in outside of FR?
A: I do InstaPhysique three times a week, I run at least once a week, and we just purchased a Peloton bike so I do that at least once a week too. I also walk our dog all the time! I work full time as a professor of Early Childhood Education so I’m always on the go.
Q: What goals have you achieved? What goals are you currently working on?
A: I’ve lost 65 pounds so far! Besides weight loss, some personal goals I’ve reached include being able to cross my legs again and walking up stairs without getting winded. My joint pain and migraines also disappeared once I lost the weight.
Q: Favorite classes to attend?
A: I love training with Blake (and also my short stint with Chris). I don’t respond well to drill sergeant types who yell at you or try to motivate you with being mean. I like encouragement and positivity. Blake is always encouraging and has a smile on his face. He tailors my workouts to meet me where I am that day. I always look forward to Friday mornings with Blake!
